The X1 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The ADX doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the X1. But it costs extra on the ADX.

Both the X1 and ADX have rear cross-traffic warning, but the X1 has Cross Traffic Warning with braking function (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The ADX’s Rear Cross Traffic Monitor doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the X1 and the ADX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The X1’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the ADX’s (12 vs. 5 years).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the X1 for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than Acura pays for maintenance for the ADX (3/36,000 vs. 1/12000).

There are over 27 percent more BMW dealers than there are Acura dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the X1’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Acura With 26 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks BMW higher than Acura.

Engine

The X1 xDrive28i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 51 more horsepower (241 vs. 190) and 116 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 179) than the ADX’s 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The X1 M35i xDrive’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 123 more horsepower (313 vs. 190) and 116 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 179) than the ADX’s 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the X1 xDrive28i gets better fuel mileage than the ADX 4x4 (24 city/33 hwy vs. 25 city/30 hwy).

Regenerative brakes improve the X1’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The ADX doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Transmission

The X1’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The ADX doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the X1’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the ADX:

The X1’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the ADX are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the X1’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the ADX (245/45R19 vs. 235/45R19).

The X1’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the ADX A-Spec’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the X1 offers optional 20-inch wheels. The ADX’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The X1 has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The ADX’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The X1 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The ADX’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the X1’s wheelbase is 1.5 inches longer than on the ADX (106 inches vs. 104.5 inches).

For greater off-road capability the X1 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the ADX (8.1 vs. 7.3 inches), allowing the X1 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The X1 xDrive28i is 8.6 inches shorter than the ADX, making the X1 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The X1 has 3.7 inches more front headroom and 1.3 inches more rear headroom than the ADX.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the X1’s rear seats recline. The ADX’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The X1 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the ADX with its rear seat up (25.7 vs. 24.4 cubic feet). The X1 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the ADX with its rear seat folded (57.2 vs. 55.1 cubic feet).

Towing

The X1 has a 3500 lbs. towing capacity. The ADX has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stabilization Control on the X1 uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The ADX doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Servicing Ease

The X1 uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The ADX uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

The X1 offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The ADX doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The power windows standard on both the X1 and the ADX have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the X1 is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The ADX prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The X1’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The ADX’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically. The ADX A-Spec’s rear windows don’t close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the X1 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the ADX can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The X1’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The ADX’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the X1 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The ADX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the X1 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The ADX doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The X1’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The ADX has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The BMW X1 has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the ADX and are only available on ADX A-Spec.

Compared to the Acura ADX, the BMW X1 eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its optional integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the rear view mirror.

The X1’s Automatic Parking Assistant can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling the transmission and speed with the brake pedal. With its available fully controlled system, the driver just activates it and it parks autonomously, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The ADX doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
